Is Green Energy Saving You Money?
Here are some suggestions on ways you can save money utilizing green energy:
1. Appliances. Use Energy Star appliances whenever possible. Also, unplug them when not in use.
2. Lighting. While the new fluorescent light bulbs may be a bit more expensive than traditional light bulbs, you can save quite a bit of money as they last longer and do not emit as much heat as their counterpart.
3. Thermostat. With the winter approaching, you may wish to set your thermostat to 68 degrees.
4. When using your washing machine and/or dishwasher, use only when you have full loads. This will not only save on your water bill but reduce the amount of energy used overall.
5. If you have your computer, TV, printer, DVD, VHS, or other electronic equipment all on one surge protector, it is recommended that you shut down the power every night. Most computers that remain in sleep mode continue to use about 15 watts of power unnecessarily. This can add up over time.
You may have noticed that computers and monitors emit a great deal of heat when on. Thus, shutting them down when not in use will also alleviate the need to continuously keep the room cool.
According to experts, screensavers use more energy. Thus, if possible remove the screensaver from your monitor.
6. If you are used to taking baths, try showers instead. This will reduce the water bill costs. Also, install a new showerhead that limits the flow of water. Instead of letting the water run as you brush your teeth or shave, fill up the sink half way to preserve the amount of water used.
These are just some suggestions that can reduce the amount of energy used in your home and save you a considerable amount of money annually.
